Fed Square warms up in June


Fed Square’s love of great food continues, with June shaping up to be a month of tantalising winter warmers to comfort all visitors to the square.

As part of ‘The Light in Winter’ program – a month-long program of free events, light sculptures and interactive installations – Fed Square is serving up some delectable treats this month. Think free mugs of warming soup, succulent winter roasts and a cocktail class that will see guests shaking up a storm.

1. Soup for the Soul - Free hot soup at Fed Square – June 23, 2012

On Saturday 23 June, Fed Square’s annual Winter Solstice Celebration takes over the Square and what better way to enjoy the glowing hand-made lanterns and live entertainment with a mug of warm soup in your hands?

Between 5pm and 8pm there will be enamel mugs available for 500 visitors to the Square, which can then be taken to one of Fed Square’s flagship eateries to be filled up with a delicious range of soups – all free!

• Chocolate Buddha – miso soup
• Transport Public Bar – soup of the day
• Feddish – creamy pumpkin soup
• Bokchoy Tang – winter melon soup
• Hamburger Bar at Beer DeLuxe – potato and leek soup
• Café Chinotto – pumpkin soup

The Solstice Celebration is part of Fed Square’s The Light in Winter program and is held on the Saturday night closet to the true winter solstice. There will be a huge exhibition of light sculptures, guerilla lighting and performances by 20 of Melbourne’s culturally diverse communities.

2. The Roast Collection - Enjoy tender winter roasts in June

The Roast Collection, an initiative of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival, raises a toast to the best and most succulent winter roasts that Victoria has to offer. Fed Square is joining in the fun with its June mantra that “every day is Sunday”. Each week in June, various eateries at Fed Square are serving up mouthwatering roasts perfectly matched with Victorian wines. Choose from:

• Feddish – $21 per person for the roast of the day
• Transport Public Bar – From $45 for a 2-person roast feast
• Taxi Dining Room – $48 per person for the ‘Paddock to Plate’ experience (dinner only)

3. Transit Cocktail Masterclass - Become a master mixologist – June 21, 2012

Want to channel your inner Tom Cruise? Become a cocktail connoisseur at the Transit Cocktail Masterclass. For only $49, you will learn how to shake and stir up a range of classy cocktails while you nibble on a selection of tastes from Transit’s fine dining neighbour, Taxi Dining Room. Running from 6pm to 9pm on Thursday, 21 June, the event will be hosted by Jackson Watson, renowned barman and sommelier from Taxi Dining Room.

Whether you’re in need of a caffeine fix or a hot snack on the way to the footy, master classes and workshops, fine dining or just a sunny spot to enjoy your lunch, get fed at Fed Square.
