Desert Bar Now Open at Il Fiornaio, St Kilda



If you have a late night craving for devine deserts then you should head St Kilda way and drop into Il Fionaio's new desert bar - open till 11pm every night.

Renowned pastry chef, Philippa Sibley, launched her much awaited dessert bar at Melbourne’s il Fornaio in St Kilda this past weekend.

Open until 11pm every day of the week, il Fornaio is a unique collaboration where exquisite pastry and spectacular desserts will be matched with the best speciality coffee from St Ali. il Fornaio is rasing the bar of what can be achieved with a café, into a stunning wine and dessert bar at night.

While Philippa has been in the kitchen at il Fornaio for the past few weeks, she has been busy preparing this unique menu of desserts unparalleled in Melbourne, possibly Australia. As a counterpoint, Philippa has created a small menu of delightful savoury tastes to tempt and delight, ideal to be enjoyed with wine and to be followed by dessert.

Matching desserts will be a carefully considered tight wine list created by sommelier, Jane Thornton, former sommelier of Ezard and Vue de Monde, wine consultant to St Jude’s Cellars, Panama Dining Room, The Gertrude Street Enoteca, Bottega and Hu Tong.

The wine list emphasizes boutique wines from the old and the new world, from the affordable to the extravagant. It is diverse, with textural and aromatic whites, boutique and artisinal champagne and sparkling wines, roses, pinot noirs, redolent reds with lesser known grapes as well that the classics and, natural, an exquisite dessert wine range.

Now the only thing left to do is simply experience the sublime.

Philippa holds the title as one of Australia’s best and well known dessert chefs. Monikers such as ‘Queen of the Desserts’ (Gourmet Traveller March 2006); ‘Stellar pastry chef’ (Gourmet Traveller Restaurant Guide 2006) and ‘Enchantress’ (Age Good Food Guide 2005) are examples of her renown. In 2004 Philippa won Chef of the Year (Age Good Food Guide).

Philippa’s amazing desserts and cakes will also be available in the pastry case and will change daily. Il Fornaio is also providing a cake made to order service, with just 24 hours notice.
