Move Over Cider, Beer: Introducing Fog City Red Sangria

Move over, cider and beer: East Ninth Brewing, the creative masterminds behind Doss Blockos Pale Lager, have just welcomed to their family the next big thing in beverages: Fog City Red Sangria. Red Sangria is tipped to be the new favourite for a sophisticated alternative to beer and cider.

The brand "Fog City" is inspired by the urban hunter-gatherer movement of San Francisco, where wine was made with any fruit they could gather from branch to vine. Fog City Red Sangria maintains this process of 'upcycling' by blending fruit that would otherwise have been discarded, to create a vibrant and sophisticated beverage.

Fog City Red Sangria is made from the ripest red wine grapes and blended with natural citrus fruit flavours, lending it a hit of sweetness and sharp freshness. Traditionally a warm-weather drink, Fog City Red Sangria can now be enjoyed in every season.

Other than a few imported brands on the market, Fog City Red Sangria is the first bottled variety to be offered by an Australian company, East Ninth Brewing, and is building on a growing trend in the US and Europe. According to GuestMetrics, in the first quarter of 2013, pre-mixed sangria sales rose by 8% in the US, making it one of the fastest-growing wine categories. Food industry consultant firm Technomic this year cited sangria as a key player in the emerging trend of consumers seeking out "new flavour experiences".

Fog City Red Sangria is the new addition to the East Ninth Brewing family, which also includes Doss Blockos Pale Lager, Fog City Cloudy Cider, and Lick Pier Ginger Beer. Doss Blockos was inspired by the New York squatting movement and proved a massive hit throughout Australia for the innovative Melbourne-based brewing company.

East Ninth products are stocked at over 4,000 restaurants, bars and bottle shops around the country, including Cutler & Co, Chin Chin, and Loam in Victoria; Sydney's Spencer Guthrie and Gardel's Bar, Canvas and Black Coffee Lyrics in Queensland; and Lalla Rookh and Mechanics Institute in WA. Fog City Red Sangria is best served on ice with a slice of orange.
