Savour the Taste of Tassy this weekend

Savour Tasmania’s Second Year Success

The second year of the annual Savour Tasmania 2010 epicurean festival has once again seen all international and local guest chef dinners sell out. Savour Tasmania hosts leading international and Australian chefs and food experts, as they create and present fine degustations and conduct cooking masterclasses with the best of Tasmania’s world- renowned produce. This year’s epicurean festival takes place this week in Hobart from Thursday 27 May to Sunday 30 May 2009 and for the first time, in Launceston and Burnie from June 5 - 6.

The inaugural Savour Tasmania 2009 was an unprecedented success. It sold out to local and mainland foodies within a week of release. Savour has been heartily embraced in Tasmania as a strategic gastronomic platform to showcase Tasmania’s pure produce to Australia and internationally. Guest chefs from the inaugural event took the message of Tasmania as the ultimate pure food bowl to the world.

The six Savour Tasmania 2010 guest chefs include Spain’s Paco Roncero from Casino de Madrid in Madrid, Alvin Leung from Bo Innovation in Hong Kong, Philippe Nouzillat from Brasserie Wolf in Singapore, New Zealand’s Martin Bosley from Martin Bosley’s in Wellington and our very own The Cook and the Chef, Maggie Beer and Simon Bryant. Two of Savour’s guest chefs have proved an unexpected coup for since Savour’s launch in March, Alvin Leung’s restaurant, Bo Innovation catapulted up the San Pellegrino Top 100 List from position 97 to position 65 and Ferran Adria’s El Bulli announced its closure in 2011. Paco Roncero runs El Bulli catering and is one of Adria’s most acclaimed protégées. Both these unforeseen events make this year’s Savour Tasmania a very special event.

Creator of the Savour Tasmania event, Alan Campbell, General Manager of Export and Enterprise Development for the Tasmanian Department of Economic Development, Tourism and the Arts says the second year of Savour Tasmania has secured its place as one of the top food festivals on the island and indeed Australia - “We are delighted we can continue to build Savour Tasmania to deliver its aim of showcasing and broadening awareness of Tasmania’s high quality produce and food and wine industries, both locally and internationally. This year Savour has also seen the event expand into regional Tasmania with a focus on the regional food districts of the north east.”

Set to take place again in May, Savour Tasmania 2011 is already in the making with provocative and innovative chefs from Europe and the United Kingdom set to transform Tasmanian food on yet another intriguing level - more details on Savour Tasmania 2011 to be revealed later this year.
