Guy Grossi and Adam D’Sylva join SIDS and Kids Victoria Red Nose Day

Celebrated Melbourne chefs, Guy Grossi of Grossi Florentino and Mirka at Tolarno, and Adam D’Sylva of Coda have joined with SIDS and Kids Victoria to act as Ambassadors for Red Nose Day 2010.

As two of Melbourne’s favourite culinary identities, Guy and Adam were thrilled to be invited to join the SIDS and Kids team for 2010.

New dad, Adam D’Sylva recognises the importance of SIDs and Kids Victoria. He said “it’s a truly worthy cause and we would hate for anything to happen to our little angel Ava.”
Guy Grossi, of Grossi Florentino says “Putting on a red nose takes 10 seconds to do, but the positive impact you can make on our families lasts a lifetime. Red Nose Day is something Victorians are proud to embrace and something I am honoured to support”.

Adam and Guy are part of a stable of seven Victorian Ambassadors, that also include Channel 7 new reader, Jennifer Keyte, Kirtsie Marshall MP, OAM, singer songwriter, Angie Hart, Hi-5 member Stevie Nicolson, and star of Wicked, Lucy Durack. These Ambassadors will assist in this year’s fundraising activities culminating on Red Nose Day, June 25th, 2010.

This is the 23rd Red Nose Day and SIDS and Kids Victoria have extended their reach to work with bereaved families of all infant, toddler and childhood deaths resulting from accidents, homicide and prenatal causes. Red Nose Day 2010 is on Friday 25th June.
Childhood death is on the increase, and unexplained deaths alone totalled more than 400 last year.

Red Nose Day is the major fundraising event for SIDS and Kids. The revenue raised through the annual Red Nose Day campaign has been responsible for the organisation’s development as one of Australia’s highest profile charities and is critical to the continued provision of established services. The innovative ‘Red Nose Day’ fundraising concept of selling novelties was introduced into Australia in 1988 in the form of a simple red nose, resulting in the fundraising phenomenon which is now recognised by 94% of Australia’s population.

SIDS and Kids Victoria offer services to approximately 400 Victorian families each year whose child has died suddenly and unexpectedly. They contact families as soon as they are notified; referrals to their organisation can come from midwives, emergency responders, and emergency department staff, through family or self referral. There is also a 24 hour help line staffed by grief counsellors and trained parent supporters. Their support is ongoing - for as long as needed.

SIDS and Kids Victoria are funded through the generosity of the Victorian public. The three main sources of income are Red Nose Day product sales, raffle ticket sales and tax-deductable donations. The organisation receives no government funding apart from a small annual grant that provides less than 1% of operating costs. The organisation also relies on a number of volunteers, many of whom are bereaved parents, families and friends. Volunteers carry out a variety of essential duties including Red Nose Day activities, family support and preparing knitted baby garments for our Treasured Babies Program.
