Belle Époque’s First Tuesday Champagne Club

Belle Epoque is inviting champagne lovers to an indulgent affair at their next First Tuesday Champagne Club. Hosted by the renowned Bernadette O’Shea, attendees will be treated to a special evening savoring the flavours of Devaux Champagne, with the spotlight firmly on showstopper Blanc de Noirs that happily boasts 100% Pinot Noir.

Each month, the First Tuesday Champagne Club at Belle Epoque sees the tasting focus on a different vintage. And for the ultimate indulgence, and quintessential culinary pairing, guests sip and slip their way through freshly shucked seasonal Oysters to accompany the champagne house.

The Champagne house of Devaux belongs to the history of Champagne, dating right back to the 19th centur y. Founded in 1846 by t h e brothers Jules and Auguste Devaux, it was taken over by Madame Augusta Devaux, one of Champagne’s great characters who ran their companies with as much energy as skill. The step forward that she had initiated led to the company being renamed Maison Veuve A. Devaux on her death. In 1986 her descendants, keen to perpetuate her prestigious name, entrusted it t o a group of Champagne producers.

Today the House of Veuve A. Devaux is found in the magnificent setting of Domaine de Villeneuve now restored t o its former glory and splendour. There is no great Champagne without the right soil and location. Each cuvee endorsed by Devaux owes its character to the 1,400 hectares (3,500 acres) of vineyard situated in the heart of the Côte des Bar which produces some of the best Pinot Noir in the whole appellation. Here , throughout the year in this attractive country side of hills and valleys, 800 winegrowers use the skills inherited from their ancestors to grow the finest grapes possible in order to produce the flavours and character of a great Champagne.

Champagne’s showcased this Tuesday include:

  • Devaux Blanc de Noirs
  • Devaux Cuvee D
  • Devaux Cuvee D Millesime 1996
  • Devaux Cuvee D Millesime 2000

“The First Tuesday Champagne Club offers Champagne lovers the chance to taste premium Champagne by the glass when ordinarily it would only be sold by the bottle and against the stunning turn-of-the-century Parisian backdrop that is Belle Époque,” said Bernadette.

O’Shea is holder of the prestigious Vin de Champagne Award. For her services to the industry she has been inducted into the L'ordre des Coteaux de Champagne and is a recipient of the very rare un Ruban vert (green ribbon) award. She has also been invested with the Chevalier de l'ordre du Merite Agricole, a knighthood from the French Government for her work in the Champagne industry, an honour hardly ever bestowed on any woman outside France.
