Philippa Sibley: The Queen of Deserts now in Hardback

Coming into March and Easter just around the corner, it's time to tempt our palettes with a desert or two… and who better than to satisfy and indulgence that the Queen of Deserts, Philippa Sibley.

Some of you might know Philippa from her ‘Snickers Desert Challenge on Masterchef in 2011 (of which she freely admits would be a tough challenge and rare for a home cook to master without formal training, but if you’re up for it go to page 253…) or have read about her in the media as the ‘queen of deserts’ of which she’s been fondly nicknamed and for good reason. Nobody quite does a desert like Philippa Sibley.

Philippa’s interest in deserts started back in the nineties when deserts still got little attention on the menu. Over the past ten years, Philippa’s been mastering the craft of deserts and pastry. ‘Deserts are spectator sport’ says Philippa ‘I just love to watch people’s reactions, it’s entertaining. You just don’t get the same reaction with an entrée or main.’

But Philippa wears the badge of desert queen with a sense of humour and this book readily marks her departure as the ‘queen of deserts’, as she moves into her current role as Executive Chef at the Albert Street Food Store.

But if you’re a die-hard desert fan or a novice cook, this is a unique and inspiring cookbook for the collection, that will probably throw a challenge or two your way. PS Deserts has a complete break down on the equipment that you require, her golden rules to any deserts, notes on eggs fruit, chocolate and butter – ‘Deserts are all about technique, once you’ve got that right, you can master the desert rather than the desert mastering you’ Philippa promises me. Most of the recipes also include a complete pictorial, as well as the written recipe to guide you through the tricky techniques along the way. PS Deserts is as much textbook as it is cookbook.

’PS Deserts is a bit like a mullet. It’s the business at the front and a party at the back.’ We couldn’t agree more Philippa!
