Book Review: The Next Element by Andy Allen

Everyone loves cooking shows, even if it is secretly… Being inspired by fresh ingredients, exotic flavours and different takes on simple dishes…

MasterChef has certainly taken the cooking show to the next level and I would have to say has become a bit of a cultural phenomenon in Australia. We, as a nation are obsessed by it. MasterChef has definitely inspired a food revolution. And so has Andy Allen, Winner of MasterChef 2012 in his new book ‘The Next Element’. His philosophy toward food is easy – keep it simple, but not predictable.

The flavour combinations in this book provide a flair to old favourites. The recipes are easy to follow, simple to make, and taste just wonderful. Try the Mediterranean Lamb Sliders, the Chilli Blue Swimmer Crab, the Pear & Fennel Salad with Moroccan Yoghurt Dressing or Ben White’s Chocolate Mojito Cheesecake with Rhubarb.

This hard cover book is delightfully presented. The full page colour photography is beautifully composed and shot and compliments the recipes perfectly. Andy has thoughtfully divided the book into chapters for ‘Cooking for My Family’, ‘Cooking for my Friends’ and ‘A New Direction’ which covers everything from starters to mains, sides, salads, sauces and desserts as well as those coveted MasterChef recipes.

Andy Allen shares over 75 recipes in this book with you, all simple yet delicious food that is packed with flavour. This book is a must for any kitchen, or the coffee table. A great book for all those home chefs.

RRP $45.00 from New Holland Australia.

About The Author:

After somehow defying the odds and winning the title of MasterChef 2012, Andy Allen was suddenly faced with tackling the swift transition from his previous career as an electrician to becoming a household name. Andy taught himself to cook through hours spent watching the Food Channel but most of his earliest food memories involve fishing with his family and cooking up the catch!

The next Element reflects the experience Andy had with the MasterChef competition and the journey he is about to embark upon with food. He believes he has come a long way in a short period of time and it is this which makes him all the more excited about the adventure.
